The Illusion of My Truth

Tyrone King

We live in a culture that constantly tells us to 'live our truth,' but this powerful message challenges us to distinguish between our truth and the Truth. Drawing from John 8:31-32, we're reminded that Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.' The message exposes how we often create our own narratives based on feelings, emotions, and desires that shift with circumstances, building our lives on unstable foundations. Like looking into a broken mirror that distorts our reflection, culture distorts truth, showing us fragmented images of who we are rather than revealing God's perfect design for our lives. The sermon uses vivid illustrations—from a pimp released from prison in outdated clothes to someone building a bike without instructions—to show how sincerely believing something doesn't make it true. We're challenged to understand that truth isn't created; it's revealed through relationship with Jesus Christ. This series invites us to stop measuring ourselves against others, stop seeking validation from social media, and start seeking the One who created us and knows everything about us. The freedom we desperately crave isn't found in living our truth, but in surrendering to His truth, which alone can heal our brokenness and give us abundant life.
